Happy Friday Joy Chasers!!! This has been a fast week for me. The Joy of Lent (my style)

Reactions:
I am not Catholic but over the last 10 plus years I have come to have many Catholic friends. They have told me a few things about their Catholic experience. Many things I knew nothing about like CCD classes, Saints, and the fact that Nuns are not always nice :-) Although I am a Christian, other than the main principles of believing in the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), a lot of other aspects of the faith do not quite mesh with my own beliefs.

But there is one aspect that meshes quite well with my spirituality. Lent! Now I don’t really know a lot about Lent but what I do know I like. To the best of my understanding Lent is practiced by giving up something as a sacrifice for the 40 days before Easter as a demonstration of faith and in remembrance of the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert, where he endured Satan’s temptation, before the beginning of his public ministry. I LIKE IT!!!

So which Non-Catholic Joy Chaser with two thumbs is practicing Lent this year? This one!! LOL Now I know there is a bit more to it than giving up something. There are some dietary guidelines (not eating meat on certain days) and probably some other spiritual things that I know nothing about, but I don’t think God will mind if I don’t do it just right. So for my spin on Lent I will be giving up, sacrificing a little free time and spending at least 20 minutes every day cleaning.

Now I know that is not really a big deal. But I hate cleaning. I am not good at it. I usually have to force myself to do it and it always takes too long. So a little each day will be a challenge and will also make my home a little more homey :-)

For me a Joy has everything to do with God. Belief in that higher power is what gives me the hope and optimism required to keep Chasing Joy on those most difficult days. And what truly helps me reach out and grab onto a little Joy is knowing that while religion can unite us with like minded people, allow us to experience group worship, and give us some guidelines on how to live life it does not dictate our own relationship with God. So for the next 40 days this non-Catholic girl will be experiencing the Joy of Lent.

Tell me Joy Chasers, have you ever taken part in another religion’s practice because you liked it? Oh, and if you are practicing Lent, what are you giving up?

Naturally Joyful Hair Giveaway

Reactions:
Free stuff. Free stuff.  Who likes free stuff?  I know I do.  There is definately I certanly amount of Joy recived when you get something cool without having to pay for it.  So when the Motions Hair Care Company contacted me about their new hair care line for Natural Hair  I jumped at the chance to score some product for you Joy Chasers.

Now while I certainly agree with India Arie when I say I am not my hair.  But!!!  I do like my hair a lot.  I am not obsessed with it but I definately feel good when I know it looks good.  I even change it up someitmes just to see how I'll feel about it or to see what reactions I'll get. Remember when I dyed it red?  If not check out my post Joy Book Chapter 1 Hairstory.  Now the down side of that is when I does not look so good I dont really feel my best.  I don't let a bad hair day turn into a bad day overall.  I will not be my own Joy Thief and let a messy do scare my Joy away.

The thing that I really like about hair is that it is a built in accessory.  We can wear it long, short, blond, brunett, pink, red, or even blue, permed, relaxed, or Natural. We can throw on a wig or a weave and take on a whole new look.  We can pull it back in a bun, twist it into an updo, or whip it back and forth like Willow Smith.  We can lock it, twist it, and braid it.  We have countless options.  So tell me does your hair bring you Joy?  How do you wear it?

Now, back to the giveaway.  Motins Hair Care has a new line of air care products specially created for women with natural hair textures, Moion's Naturally You.  To kick of this new line they are running a contest the Motins Natural Girl Search.  Along with giving me some hair products to try out they have asked me to spread the word about the Motions Natural Girl Search.  Motions is lookin for 3 fabulous girls with natural style to introduce the new line.  Since all of you Joy Chasers are FABULOUS and more than 3 of you have natural hair styles I said count me in.  So check out the Motions Contest here if you are iterested and fill in the Raffelcopter form below to get your free natural hair care products.  If you are the lucky winner you will receive a Moisturizing Cleanser, Smoothing Conditioner, and Radiatng Gloss

Good Luck!!!  The winner of the giveaway will be announed here on or after March 1st 2012.

Happy Valentine's Day: Dating a CAJT

Reactions:
In honor of Valentine’s Day my gift to you is the post you have been waiting for.  It is oh so appropriate for today in a sarcastic kind of way.   I have been looking for love, a Joy Chasing partner of my very own.  However, my search continues.  I know a princess like me may have to kiss a lot of frogs before she finds her prince.  This post is one of those toad tales.  I wrote this post a few weeks ago.  But as I mentioned in my post, 30 is The New 20 But Not For You, right before I hit publish I got scared of the possible repercussions of the subject of the post reading it and freaking out as he clearly possessed crazy tendencies.  But as a few weeks have gone by and I don’t believe I am being stalked, cyber or otherwise.  I am hitting the publish button.   If you have a Valentine this year let this post fill you with the Joy of know you are no longer in the dating game.  If you don’t have a Valentine this year let this post fill you with the Joy of know you are not alone in your search for love.
Here is a post that will make all of you married Joy Chasers happy you are no longer a part of the dating scene.

I have menteioned in a few other posts that I am single and looking.  While being in a relationship is not a prerequisite for Chasing Joy, I do think it is a journey that would be much more fun shared. So I have been making an effort to find my Mr. Joy Chaser.  I've mentioned to friends that I am looking to meet new people, have been going out more often, and have joined a couple of dating sites.

I have never made a love connection via online dating.  But, I have met some really nice guys that I still keep in touch with.  So, overall I have had pretty decent experiences with online dating.  That is until this weekend.

A month or so ago I was browsing a dating site that I am a member of and came across a profile that I found intersting.  I sent him (who will be known as CAJT - Crazy Ass Joy Thief for the remainder of this post) a message and he responded with a message of his own.  After a few days of emailing we exchanged numbers and CAJT and I began talking and texting regularly.  He SEEMED nice, stable, responsible and not at all like a Crazy Ass Joy Thief.

We had our first date.  Just a bite to eat at a mutually agreed upon location.  I drove myself.  I was taken aback by how shy he was but over all it was a decent date.  We had our 2nd date.  That one had more of a rough start.  He got lost and was really late arriving at our agreed upon location.   When he finally arived we enjoyed a quick bit to eat and then a movie.  After the movie we walked the mall and he earned a few bonus points by buying me the book I needed to read for my book club.  That's definately not the actions of a CAJT.

There were a few weeks between our second and third dates as we had Christmas and then New Years occupying our time.  On the third date CAJT decided to come out of his shy shell and reaveal his true crazy self.  I'll save some time and not give you the full blow by horrific blow and only high-light or should I say low-light the worst parts of the date includeing the big reveal of a whole lot of crazy.

Because CAJT and I had communicated quite a bit and been on two decent dates  I felt comfortable with him picking me up.  He was two hours late.  I had just text him canceling when he said he was at my house.  I went because I was still dressed and he was right outside.  (I'm glad I went because if I hadn't I'd still not know he was CAJT).  He did not plan the date well and I ended up suggesting a bowling alley for us.  The car ride conversation revealed that he was a bit too conservative (for my liking) regarding gay people and white people adopting black chlderen. FYI, me and CAJT are both black.  During bowling he was not friendly at all to the people in the lane next to us.  He was also way too quiet.  Needless to say I was already feeling like me and CAJT were not really a good match.  As we were leaving the bowling alley he opend up his mouth and the Crazy came pooring out!!!

CAJT revealed that he is a member of a group that studies Ancient Egyptian Mysticism.  He said he'd had to be initiated to join,  they spend their meetigns handing out pamphlets and "propagating", and that the group helped him with his spiritual studies and focus.  He meditated using CDs they provided which help him to focus so he could get a better job and not have to "WORK FOR THE BEAST"  that's right he said "THE BEAST"  he clarified that by the beast he ment The Devil.  He continued on to say America along with Europe, China, and India are all "EVIL".  He further confirmed his craziness by explaining that he used his mind to practice "PSYCHIC WARFARE" which helped him repelled evil forces.

Now you understand why he has so rightfully earned the title Crazy Ass Joy Thief.  Needless to say I will not be seeing him again.  Now I am just sorry I gave him my address to pick me up :-(   He seemed to uderstand later when I explained that our spiritual values were too different for us to be compatible.  So I don't anticipate any trouble from CAJT.

Now I'm left feeling like maybe it's time for me to take a little brake from trying to find Mr. Joy Chaser.  Is this the Universe's/God's way of telling me to stop trying to force it, that love will find me and I don't have to look for it?  What do you think Joy Chasers? Did you find your joy chasing partners when you were or were not looking?  If you are single and looking like me have you ever had a date as bad as this one?  If so please tell me about.

Flashback Friday: Praying for Joy

Reactions:
Happy Friday Joy Chasers!!! TGIF!! This week's flashback, Praying for Joy, is about me realizing that I had not been starting my day the way I wanted.  Sadly I have not improved in this area as much as I would have liked.  At least now I often catch myself.  What is the first thing you do when you wake up?  Do you like the way you start your day?

Now, it's time for the linky.  If you are not familiar with the Flashback here is the 411. Flashback Friday is where we Flashback to our older blog posts and linkup. BoB January

Reactions:
Happy New Year Everyone! I know this is not my first post this year, but it is my first Best of the Blogosphere for 2012. January went by really fast and I read a lot of great posts especially from those who shared their blog posts during the #commenthour twitter party and #FlashbackFriday link ups. There are a few that I especially enjoyed. On these few I bestow the title of Best of the Blogosphere (BoB) January.

In no particular order, here are the best posts I came across this month:

Caroline shares a big announcement that inspires us to get up and get going in her post A Big Announcement. I am looking forward to keeping up with her Journey

Riverand takes us back in time to one of the most tragic events in US history in her post Lost After Launching. Only we experience this emotional as a mystery viewed through the eyes of a child.

Amanda offers practical advise in her usually witty way in her post Seeking A Sitter, How to Find Reliable Childcare. Her 5 tips sound pretty on point to me.

• I really really loved this post Father’s Be Good To Your Daughters by Gina of Faith Promise Blog.  Having been blessed with the best dad ever I loved reading a post encouraging other dad’s to step up to the plate and build beautiful relationships with their daughters.

• This post by Terra on How Not to Give a Cat a Bath had my cracking up. It also confirmed that my decision on how to groom my ageing cat is on point. Sponge bath it is.

Check out some or all of these BoB post and then stop by Cookie’s Chronicles to see who she picked for her January BoB blog hop.

My favorite of my own January posts is Wonderfully Made to Chase Joy.This post reveals my word of the year and sets a positive, comforting, and faith based tone for the blog for 2012.

Tell me, what was your favorite post you wrote this month and what post(s) did you come across in January that represent the Best of the Blogosphere???

Oh and join the Linky.
