Having a party! A #ChasingJoy Party!

Reactions:
When I started this blog, started Chasing Joy, over two years ago I did not really have a long term goal. I just wanted to feel better. I figured if I wrote enough about happiness and Joy I’d inevitable feel happiness and joy.

I was right! Writing Chasing Joy has been an amazing experience. I do feel happier. I have better friendships. I have been pleasantly surprised at who in my life is supportive of Chasing Joy. A little disappointed by who has not been supportive, but on the flip side it is good to know where you stand. I have been braver than I would have imagined going to a blog conference alone in another state, trying new activities, and even speaking in public. This overall has been a great experience.

So, what’s next??? The #ChasingJoy Twitter party is what’s next. So many of you have visited this blog on a regular basis and it is really appreciated. Your comments have let me know I am not alone in my struggles and the way that I think. You have helped me with your suggestions and encouragement. This is why I want to throw you a party.

Actually it’s a Twitter Party. A Twitter party is where we all tweet about the same topic using a hashtag. You then search for tweets using the same hashtag so that you can follow the conversation. I like to use tweetchat to make it easy. Some people use hootsuite, tweetdeck and other applications to participate in Twitter Parties.

Our hashtag is #ChasingJoy of course. I want to do the #ChasingJoy twitter party so that I can get to know you all better and to give us an opportunity to have real time conversation about Happiness, wellbeing, gratitude, and anything else that makes us feel Joyful. The #ChasingJoy twitter will take place once a month. NORMALLY it will be the 1st Sunday of every month from 4 to 5 pm EST. HOWEVER the May #ChasingJoy party will be a little early. Join me on Sunday April 29th from 4 to 5 EST on twitter. Use hashtag #ChasingJoy and talk to me.

Now I can’t imagine anything else would be more important than chatting with me on Twitter during the #ChasingJoy twitter party, but if you do have something better to do like get married, meet the president, or receive an award, fear not! There will be many more twitter parties. So you can always join in next month. Be sure to keep up with me on FB and twitter to get the dates.

What would you like to discuss at the #ChasingJoy twitter party?

Rennovating My Temple

Reactions:
google images
I know it has been a while since I last wrote anything for the My Body My Temple Series. But fear not. I have not completely neglected my permanent residence and let my outer shell go into ruin. My Physical health is still at the top of my priority list. It is much easier to Chase Joy with a strong and healthy body. However, I do confess to letting some routine maintenance slip.

I am trying to do things a bit differently now. I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I know how to lose weight; move more eat less. But somehow it is not that simple. Now I am trying to focus on some of my behaviors that get in the way of me eating less and moving more. I have heard from multiple people and publications (that I cannot remember) that it takes 4 weeks to break or start a new habit. So here is a list of all (that I can think off) the behaviors that are damaging to the structure of my Temple. I am going to tackle them by focusing on each behavior for a month to modify it before moving on to the next one. I started last month on my Birthday so my months will start on the 17th of each month.  Check out my list so far:
  • Stop waking up and snacking in the middle of the night – March
  • Stop eating in my bed room – April
  • Stop eating to keep from falling asleep and go for a walk instead (this is usually at work) – May
  • Stop eating mindlessly while focusing on other things (reading, computer, etc) - June
  • Stop secret eating (eating amounts or types of foods alone to avoid judgement) - July
  • Stop knowingly emotional eating (eating when I know I'm really sad, lonely, or angry and not really hungry) - August
  • Decrease my portions - September
  • Stop eating in my car - October
So this is my plan for the next few months.  I'm hoping that by focusing on each thing for one month at a time these goals will feel more achievable.  Since March I have only gotten up in the middle of  the night and snacked 2 times.  I'm sure I have saved myself at least 50 to 100 (probably more) calories a day.  I'm also hoping to take advantage of the accountability by sharing my plan with you Joy Chasers.

It is not easy for me to admit some of these behaviors but I'm sure I'm not the only one.  What behaviors would you like to change to bring you closer to your goals?  What can you do /or not do to treat your body more like a temple?

Flashback Friday: The Road to Joy

Reactions:
(singing) It's Friday! Friday! Time for Flashback Friday!! This weeks Flashback, The Road to Joy, is about a rather typical day where nothing extraordinary happened that I deemed a Good Day. What has to happen (or not happen) for you to classify a day as Good?

Inspired to Thrive on Make It Happen Monday

Reactions:
Good Morning Joy Chasers,

I hope you had a good morning.  If you are tired this morning I hope it is from having too much fun this weekend.  My weekend had some highs and some lows.  The highs did include Margaritas so that is a big plus :-)

No matter how good the weekend was Monday always arrives to greet us too quickly.  But the good thing is we do our best to avoid coming down with A Case of the Mondays and instead we share in #MakeItHappenMonday and focus on setting goals for a good week.

If you keep up with me on Facebook and Twitter you may remember that a few weeks ago one of my goals was to finish my guest post for my friend Lisa from Inspire to Thrive.  Well mission accomplished.  So today after you decide on your goals for the week and share them with us on Facebook and Twitter  visit Inspire To Thrive and checkout my guest post.

Happy Make It Happen Monday :-)

Party Like a Blog Star

Reactions:
A few days ago I discovered there was a week long twitter party going down this week.   As a matter of fact this is not just any twitter party this is the Ultimate Blog Party 2012 (#UBP12) hosted by 5MinutesforMom.com with sponsor Kleenex Cottonelle.  This is the 6th annual Ultimate Blog Party and I'm so happy to find out about it so that I can participate.  The party includes loads of giveaways, live online events, and most importantly the chance to find new blogs, readers, and online friends.  Check it out here: http://www.5minutesformom.com/51797/ultimate-blog-party-2012/ .

Now for any of you visiting me from the party here is a little about me and about Chasing Joy.  Chasing Joy is a blog about me.  I am a 32 year old woman working to overcome the most difficult time in my life by focusing on and going after Joy. I started writing the blog after a rough 2 years that included a horrible job, a bad breakup and most devastating of all losing my dad to cancer two months after diagnosis. This blog Chasing Joy is my way back to being happy and staying happy again after so much heartache; to not only finds my old self but to improve upon it.

I am very active on Facebook and Twitter connecting with others who have made Joy a priority.  We do Make it Happen Mondays (#MakeitHappenMonday) where we set positive goals for the week; Way to go Wednesdays (#WaytogoWednesday) where we encourage ourselves and others by saying way to go for our accomplishments; Thankful Thursday (#ThankfulThursday)  where we focus on gratitude and what we are thankful for; and Flashback Friday (#FlashbackFriday) where we revisit our oldie but goodie posts and share them via the linky.  I am also a monthly contributor as a Girlfriend Guru on Girlfriendology.com.

Feel free to check out my About Me page, explore other posts, keep up with me on Facebook and Twitter, and visit often to Chase Joy with me.

Are you participating in the Ultimate Blog Party 2012 this week?

A Joyful Detour

Reactions:
I am convinced.  People are absolutely obsessed with putting round objects in or through wholes or openings.  Think about it, golf, basket ball, billiards, soccer, hockey, and disk golf.  (If you are wondering what disc golf is hang on for a minute and I'll tell you.)

A few weekends ago it was unseasonable warm day for March in Philly.  So I decided to take my dog Hurt (yes, that is his name not a typo and no I did not name him nor do I know where his name cam from) for a nice long walk along the river.  This is a real treat for him, it being a much more scenic walk with more interesting things for him to smell and pee on than our normal walk in my neighborhood.  I got hurt in the car and we got on the highway.

It is a short little trip only about two exits from my house to the off ramp for the river.  Well just as we get off the highway and approached where we should park we run into a detour. The detour takes us on an unfamiliar route through the park.  Unfortunately after the first detour sign there were no others.  My strategy to follow the traffic ahead of me back to the river failed.  Apparently the cars ahead of me were not taking there dogs for walks by the river.  We ended up on the other side of town :-(

Hurt was getting anxious to get out the car and start his walk so I parked where we were, in the park, on the other side of town and Hurt and I set out walking.  He was just as happy with this new location as he would have been by the river.   He sniffed all of the plants, grasses, and rocks and peed on every tree, post, or stick that was taller than him.

You cant tell but that sign above the picnickers says no picnicking lol

While Hurt surveyed the area from ground level to 12 inches up I took in everything else.  I noticed a group of people having a picnic in the park.  It was a kind of a large group.  They were playing Frisbee. As we walked along the path I noticed another group playing Frisbee, and another and another.  I thought Wow! I didn't know people were that into Frisbee. I also noticed signs with numbers and heard the people yelling "FOUR".

When Hurt and I turned around to head back to the car, that is when I saw the sign for Sedgley Woods Disc Golf Course.  I had never heard of Disc Golf before.  So, when I got back to the car I asked a young woman who had been hula-hooping (yes hula-hooping, you did not misread) if she knew what Disc Golf was.  She was more than happy to explain it to me.  She said Disc Golf was just like real golf  except instead of golf balls and clubs you play with discs similar to Frisbees (but smaller) and instead of the hole being in the ground a metal "hole" basket like contraption hangs from the trees.

from wikipedia

Here is what wikipedia has to say about Disc Golf.  Disc golf is a disc game in which individual players throw a flying disc at a target. The object of the game is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws of the disc. The game is played in about 40 countries around the world.

So I am now a throwing round things into wholes obsessed Disc Golfer.  OK, no I'm not.  But its nice to know that if I wanted to be one there is a course filled with Disc Golfers less than a 15 minute drive from my house.

There is a quote that says “The really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on a detour.”  That day I was reminded that there are all kinds of people with all kinds of interests in this world even 15 minutes from my own back yards.  That day Hurt and I enjoyed the scenery along our detour.

Have you ever heard of or played disc golf?  What interesting things have you found while lost or on a detour?
